The book is a testimony to an extraordinary life and at the same time a portrait of the era and the places in which that life unfolded. It arose out of curiosity – from a desire to uncover the secret of three old travel suitcases containing some fifty thousand film frames. Their author, Jiří Stivín (*1942), allows us to glimpse into his archive of negatives. He sets out in search of the traces of his own fate from the late 1950s to the 1990s, reviving memories of people and events about which he still has something to say, even after many years.
